5K Fidgets

A box of fidgets and supplies to package them, spread out on a kitchen table.

It’s been a while since I did a fidget drop and that’s because I’ve been saving up for a very special event. Embrace the Pace is an inclusive 5K/One-Mile/Kids’ Race event, hosted by Connecting for Kids — and The Fidget Project is a proud sponsor!

As part of the sponsorship, The Fidget Project provided 150 fidgets. We chose three of our favorite designs — infinity triangles, infinity cubes and herringbone spinners.

A cardboard box, dumped in its side, with fidgets spilling out.

We tried to be intentional about the packaging. Each fidget comes in a shiny, re-sealable bag. We chose the shiny bags because they’re fun to look at and represent how some people use visual stimulation to calm and reset themselves. Inside the bags, we like to include a textured sticker (or two, if they’re small) to represent the sense of touch. Then there’s the fidget itself, which represents the movement senses (proprioceptive and vestibular).

Unfortunately that leaves the senses of taste and smell out. While addressing all the senses would be pretty neat, there are some safety concerns about putting the fidgets in your mouth, so we thought it best to keep these senses off the table.

We’re excited for race day and seeing how folks like the fidgets. If you were going to get one, which would you want?
